How it is calculated

Holiday hours = contracted weekly hours (up to 40) ÷ 40 × 8. Holiday pay = holiday hours × hourly wage. You qualify when your contracted hours average at least 15 a week and you work every contracted day that week.

The monthly estimate uses the average month of 365 ÷ 7 ÷ 12 weeks. All amounts are before income tax and social insurance.

Frequently asked questions

What is weekly holiday pay (주휴수당)?

Korean labor law gives employees at least one paid day off a week on average. If you work every contracted day that week, you are paid for that day too, on top of the hours you worked.

Do I get it if I work less than 15 hours a week?

No. If your contracted hours average under 15 a week over four weeks, the weekly paid holiday doesn’t apply.

What if I miss a day?

If you are absent on any contracted workday, you lose that week’s holiday pay, but you are still paid for the hours you worked. Being late or leaving early is not an absence.

Is it included in a monthly salary?

Usually yes. A 40-hour week counts as 209 paid hours a month including holiday hours, which is ₩2,156,880 at the 2026 minimum wage. Check your contract.

Where can I ask about my case?

The Ministry of Employment and Labor customer center answers labor questions at 1350 (no area code needed).
