Frequently asked questions
How is the gas bill calculated in Korea?
Gas used (m³) × correction factor × average heat value gives the energy used in MJ. That is multiplied by the unit price, the basic fee is added, and then 10% VAT. Since July 2012, gas is billed by energy (MJ), not volume.
Where do I find the heat value and correction factor?
Your bill lists gas used (사용량, m³), the correction factor (보정계수), the average heat value (평균열량) and energy used (사용열량, MJ). For the most accurate result, enter the MJ from your bill directly.
I don’t live in Seoul. Does this still work?
Yes, if you enter your own rate. Unit prices differ by city and gas company; use the residential unit price (₩/MJ) and basic fee on your bill or your gas company’s website.
