Group Buy Shipping Split
Enter the shipping and packing costs of a group order and what each person ordered. The tool splits the cost equally, by quantity or by weight, and gives you text to copy.
Work out the split
Everything is worked out on this device. Names and amounts are not saved or sent. Agree on the way you split with the others first.
Example
Shipping of 30 and packing of 5 makes 35. If one person ordered 2 items and another 1, splitting by quantity gives 23.34 and 11.66, with the extra cent covered by the organizer. Press “Load an example” to try it.
How it works
The total of shipping and packing is divided in proportion to each person’s quantity or weight, or equally. The cents left after rounding down are handed out so the shares add up exactly to the total.
It is a way to settle up among friends. It does not check any shop’s shipping prices and does not include the price of the goods.
Frequently asked questions
How should the shipping be split?
Enter the shipping and packing costs, then each person’s quantity or weight. If everyone orders about the same, splitting equally is simplest. If the amounts differ, split by quantity, or by weight when weight sets the freight. There is no official rule, so agree on one before you calculate. The price of the goods and any costs one person pays alone should be kept out of the shipping.
Can I mix quantities and weights?
Use one unit for the whole split. If one person enters a count and another a weight, they cannot be compared. For example, 10.00 of shipping and quantities of 1 and 3 gives 2.50 and 7.50. Weights can have decimals, but use the same unit for everyone. A very large item or one that needs its own packing can cost more than a proportional share, so settle that first.
Who pays the leftover cent?
Amounts are worked out in cents, so each person’s share is rounded down first and the leftover cents are handed out. The organizer can cover all of them, or they go one cent at a time from the first person (rounded up) or from the last person (rounded down). The shares always add up to the exact total, which would not be true if everyone’s share were rounded on its own.
How do I share the result?
Check each person’s amount and the total, then press the copy button and paste the text into your group chat. Names and amounts are not saved or sent and disappear when you reload, so copy before you leave. You can add up to 50 people. If the final shipping at checkout changes, work it out again.
