Drying Rack Placement

Describe the room as seen from above, with the opened rack, the doors and the furniture, and see where the rack fits and how much walking space is left.

Find a spot

Draw the room as seen from above. Position every door and piece of furniture from the top-left corner of the room. Everything is worked out on this device and nothing is sent.

Units
1. Room and drying rack
2. Doors (optional)

A door that swings into the room keeps a square the size of the door clear. A sliding door or one that opens outward keeps a strip 60 cm (about 24 in) deep clear.

3. Furniture (optional)

Each piece is a rectangle seen from above. x and y are the distance from the top-left corner of the room to the top-left corner of the piece.

Example

In a 300 × 250 cm room with a 140 × 60 cm rack, a door that swings in at the bottom-left and a 200 × 90 cm sofa in the top-left corner, the rack fits in the middle of the room with 30 cm of space to the sofa, the door swing and the walls. Press “Load an example” to try it.

How it works

A door that swings into the room keeps a square the size of the door clear. A sliding door or one that opens outward keeps a strip 60 cm (about 24 in) deep clear. The tool then looks for the spot, in both directions, with the most space to walls, furniture and those door areas.

It tells you whether the rack fits with the walking space you asked for, fits but is tight, or overlaps something, and how far it is from each item. Escape and ventilation routes, the rack’s stability and its load limit are not checked.

Frequently asked questions

What are x and y for furniture?

x is the distance from the left wall to the left edge of the piece and y is the distance from the top wall to its top edge. The top and left are whichever walls you decide to call the top and left of the plan.

Why does it say my furniture overlaps a door?

The furniture you entered sits inside the area a door needs to swing or open. Check the position of the furniture and the door details.

Can I use it for a tall or hanging rack?

It only uses the floor space the opened rack takes up, seen from above. Hanging clothes, height and the weight of wet laundry are not part of the check.

  • The calculation is the same as on the Korean version of this tool. There is no official standard for these measurements; the 60 cm strip for sliding doors is a site assumption.
