Example
In a 48 × 60 in entryway with a 36 in door opening inward, four 16 × 12 in boxes stacked two high in the top-left corner leave the door free. Move them in front of the door and the tool warns that the door may not open fully.
How it works
Draw the entryway as a rectangle seen from above, with its top-left corner as the starting point. Each pile is a group of identical boxes; you choose how many and how high to stack them, and where the pile sits. The wall opposite the front door is treated as the way into your home.
The tool warns when a pile sits outside the entryway, piles overlap, or a pile is where the door swings (or right in front of a sliding or outward door). It also measures the widest clear strip from the door to the far side. That width is a reference, not a fire-escape or accessibility rating.
Frequently asked questions
Does a sliding door need clear space too?
Yes. The tool keeps a door-width square in front of any door clear, because you still need to stand there to go in and out.
Can I turn the boxes?
Yes. Tick “Turn boxes sideways” to swap width and depth for that pile.
Is a narrow path safe?
The tool does not judge safety. Keep exits clear and follow your building’s rules, especially in shared hallways.
