Assignment Deadline Planner

Enter a deadline and the steps of your assignment, such as research, a first draft and a final check. The tool works backwards to show when each step should start, whether you are on track today, and gives you a calendar file for the plan.

Work out the schedule

The schedule is worked out on this device. Nothing you enter is saved or sent.

Leave blank for today. Today compares with the current time; another day compares with 00:00 on that day

Example

With 2 hours a day, a 10% break share and four steps of 2, 3, 1 and 0.5 hours due in 14 days at 6 PM, the tool shows the latest day to start research, the hours to study today, and a time range for every step. Press “Load an example” to try it.

How it works

Each step needs its work hours plus the breaks you set. The tool places the steps back to back before the deadline, using only the hours you can study each day, and reports the time the first step must begin.

It is a reference plan. It does not know about classes, meals or sleep unless you leave them out of the hours you enter, and it cannot promise that you will finish on time.

Frequently asked questions

How is the start time worked out?

The tool counts back from the deadline, step by step, using the hours you can study per day. Breaks add time to each step, so the start comes earlier as the break share grows.

What do “Tight” and “Room to spare” mean?

“Not enough time” means the start time is already in the past. “Tight” means less than a day is left before you must start, and “Room to spare” means you have a day or more. The one-day cut-off is a rule of thumb, not a standard.

Why does a step span more time than its work hours?

The range from start to end includes breaks and the hours of the day when you are not studying. The “actual work” figure shows only the hours of work.

Does the calendar file include my time zone?

Dates and times use your device’s time zone. The downloaded file stores one event per step, and your calendar app shows them in its own time zone.
