Example
For a pot with a 20 cm inside diameter and a 21 cm outside diameter, a lid with a lip that sits inside the pot, a flat rim and a lid listed at 20.2 cm, the lid will probably fit. Press “Load an example” to try it.
How it works
The size to look for depends on the lid type. A lid with a lip that sits inside the pot is matched to the inside diameter, within 0.5 cm. A lid that sits on the rim is matched to the outside diameter, up to 1 cm larger. A stepped universal lid should cover the range you enter.
The tool also warns you about rims with a pouring spout or a handle that rises over the rim, because a flat lid may not seat properly there. It does not judge whether a lid is airtight or suitable for pressure cooking.
Frequently asked questions
Should I measure the inside or the outside of the pot?
For a lid that sits inside the pot, measure the inside diameter at the opening. For a lid that sits on the rim, measure the outside diameter of the rim. If you are not sure which kind you have, enter both.
The tool says the lid will probably fit. Is that certain?
No. It compares the sizes you enter. Pot rims are not always round or flat, and lids differ in thickness, so check the maker’s listed size and the return policy.
Can I use this for a pressure cooker lid?
No. Airtight and pressure lids depend on a gasket and a locking system that are made for one model. Buy a lid for the same model from the maker.
