Wobbly Furniture Diagnosis
Choose how the furniture wobbles and what happens when you move it, and see whether the floor or the furniture is the likely cause, with safe checks to do.
Find the likely cause
Choose how the furniture wobbles and what happens when you move it to another spot. The tool points to the floor or the furniture and lists safe checks. It does not take the furniture apart. Nothing you choose is saved or sent.
Example
If a desk sways at the top, wobbles the same in another spot, stands on a wood floor and you assembled it recently, the tool says the furniture is the likely cause and points to loose screws at the joints. Press “Load an example” to try it.
How it works
Moving the furniture is the key test. If the wobble goes away in another spot, the floor is the likely cause. If the top sways or the joints creak, or it rocks the same everywhere, the furniture is. The tool also considers the floor type and whether you moved or assembled it recently.
If any danger sign applies, such as a crack, a joint coming loose, a leaning storage unit or a child climbing it, the tool tells you to stop using it first. It only suggests checks that do not take the furniture apart.
Frequently asked questions
Why move it to another spot?
If the wobble disappears on a flat floor elsewhere, the cause is the floor where it stood. If it stays, the cause is in the furniture itself.
How tight should the screws be?
Tighten until snug by hand with the right screwdriver. Forcing them can strip the holes and make the joint looser.
When should I stop using it?
Stop if you see a crack or break, a leg or joint coming loose, a unit that leans and may tip, or a child climbing a unit that is not fixed to the wall.
