No-Drill Install Check
If you rent and cannot drill, enter what you want to hang, how, and what the wall is like, and see what to check before you fit it.
Check before fitting
Example
A 0.5 kg item on an adhesive hook rated for 1 kg, on a smooth wallpapered wall in an ordinary room, comes out as something to avoid, because the hook can pull the wallpaper off. Press “Load an example” to try it.
How it works
The tool compares the item’s weight with the limit printed on the product, then checks the method against the wall: adhesive on wallpaper or drywall, suction cups on anything not smooth, pins on hard walls. It also looks at the surface, damp or hot places and what the instructions allow.
Shelves, TVs, mirrors and anything over a bed or sofa are not recommended without drilling, whatever the weight, because a fall is dangerous. The tool does not set a weight limit of its own; it uses the one printed on the product.
Frequently asked questions
How much can an adhesive hook hold?
This tool does not set a number. Compare the weight limit printed on the package with the weight of what you hang, and add the weight of the hook or shelf itself. If they are close, choose a product with a higher limit.
Can I stick a hook on wallpaper?
The wallpaper can come off with it, or tear when you remove it. Consider it only if the instructions allow that surface, and ask your landlord what you would be expected to repair.
Where do suction cups work?
Only on smooth, airtight surfaces such as tile and glass. Wallpaper, painted walls, drywall, concrete and wood let air in.
