Cabinet Hinge Size Finder

Measure the side panel, the door overlap and the cup hole, and see which type of hinge to look for and what to compare with a new one.

Find the hinge type

Measure the side panel, the door and the cup hole of a concealed cup hinge, and see which type of hinge to look for and what to check against a new one. Enter every size in millimetres (1 inch is 25.4 mm). It narrows the type only and does not confirm that a product fits. Nothing you enter is saved or sent.

The upright panel the hinge plate is screwed to

Enter 0 if the door sits between the panels (inset)

Usually 35

Left empty, 12 mm is assumed

Example

For an 18 mm side panel and door, a door that covers the full 18 mm, a 35 mm cup hole 5 mm from the door edge, 32 mm plate screw spacing and a 110 degree opening, the tool finds a full overlay and a straight-arm hinge, and says nothing stands out to check, apart from comparing the model number. Press “Load an example” to try it.

How it works

The overlap decides the hinge arm: a door covering the whole side panel needs a straight arm, half needs a slightly cranked arm, and an inset door needs a strongly cranked arm. The cup hole is usually 35 mm. The tool also checks the door thickness, the distance from the cup hole to the door edge, the plate screw spacing and the opening angle.

Measure in millimetres. Cup hinges are sold by these sizes almost everywhere. The tool narrows the type only and cannot confirm that a product fits, so photograph the maker’s name and part number on the old hinge and look for the same part number.

Frequently asked questions

What is a cup hinge?

A concealed hinge whose round cup sits in a hole drilled in the back of the door, with an arm that attaches to a plate on the side panel. The cup is usually 35 mm across.

How do I measure the overlap?

Close the door and measure how much of the side panel’s thickness the door covers. Enter 0 if the door sits between the panels.

Will a hinge with the same cup size fit?

Not always. The overlap, opening angle, plate shape and the distance from the cup to the door edge also differ, so compare the part number.
