Appliance Electricity Cost

List the appliances you use, with watts, hours per day and the number of units, and enter your own price per kWh. The tool estimates the electricity and cost for the month.

Work out the cost

Everything is worked out on this device. Nothing you enter is saved or sent. Enter your own price per kWh from your bill.

Read it from your bill or the supplier’s price list. Tiers and time-of-use prices are not applied.

Example

An 800 W air conditioner for 6 hours a day and a 100 W computer for 8 hours a day, for 30 days, use 168 kWh. At an example price of 0.15 per kWh that costs about 25.20. Use your own price. Press “Load an example” to try it.

How it works

Watts × hours × units × days ÷ 1,000 gives kWh for each appliance. Multiplying by your price per kWh gives the cost, and the appliances are added up.

It is a rough estimate. It does not apply any country’s pricing rules and does not show what you will pay.

Frequently asked questions

What price per kWh should I use?

Use the price on your own bill or your supplier’s price list. The tool has no built-in price because it differs by country, supplier and plan. If your bill has tiers or time-of-use prices, use an average that fits how you use power.

How is the cost worked out?

For each appliance, watts × hours per day × number of units × days ÷ 1,000 gives kWh for the month. That times the price per kWh gives the cost, and the totals are added up. The share column shows how much of the total each appliance accounts for.

Where do I find the watts?

Look at the label on the appliance or in its manual. Some appliances, such as air conditioners and fridges, do not draw their rated power all the time, so a lower average may be closer to real use. Enter an average that matches how you use it.

What does the estimate leave out?

Fixed monthly charges, tiered or time-of-use pricing, taxes, fuel adjustments and standby power are not included, so your bill will differ. It only shows how much of your use and cost comes from the appliances you list.
