TSA full item list · US security screening tips
US screening rules apply to US checkpoints. Departure, transfer and destination countries and operating airlines may be stricter. This checker does not approve baggage or cover mobility batteries.
Emirates smart-bag rule: remove a removable battery before checking the bag and carry it in the cabin; bags with non-removable built-in batteries are banned under that guidance.
Example
A label showing 20,000 mAh at 3.7 V is 74 Wh. Delta permits at most two power banks no larger than 100 Wh each, with additional storage and onboard-use rules.
How to use this guide
Start with the rules at every departure and transfer airport, then check the airline operating each flight. TSA handles US security screening, while FAA dangerous-goods guidance and airline rules cover battery risks. A rating in mAh needs voltage before it can be converted to Wh. Remove spare batteries and power banks before gate-checking a cabin bag.
Frequently asked questions
Can a power bank go in checked baggage?
No. Spare lithium batteries and power banks must stay in cabin baggage, including when a bag is checked at the gate.
Does FAA permission override an airline rule?
No. Airlines and countries may impose stricter limits. Confirm with the operating airline.
Is 100 mL the same as 3.4 fluid ounces?
TSA expresses its standard container limit as 3.4 oz (100 mL). Use the marked container capacity, not the liquid remaining.
